Board Welcomes Student Trustees

09/20/2016 - District School Board Ontario North East is proud to welcome two new student trustees for the 2016-17 school year. Gillian Gobbo (left) and Aviana Ruel (right) were officially welcomed at the September 20th Meeting of the Board. Gillian is a grade 12 student at Iroquois Falls Secondary School. Aviana comes from École Secondaire Cochrane High School and is also in grade 12. With the ultimate goal of advancing the student vision, student trustees are elected by their peers to bring student voice to district school board tables.

For some of our students, this was their first day of school ever. For others, this will be their last first day of school, as they head onto post-secondary education next year. To our staff, we wish you a great start to the new year!

Board Prepares for New Year Ahead

09/02/2016 - Redefining Learning and Teaching for the 21st Century was the theme of a special professional development day held on Thursday, September 1st. The day was a springboard into the new school year with over 700 teachers, educational assistants, child & youth workers, early childhood educators, as well as Board Trustees and Administration participating in workshops to showcase innovation in the classroom.

The day's highlights included keynote presentations from business and technology visionary Leonard Brody and Apple Education Executive Shawn Lennie. Lennie spoke of challenge-based learning, and building the thinking skills of students. Brody presented a strong message about how to make students competitive in our technological world.
